Karma Construction's Journey

By Thomas Blakeway

I’ve always known I wanted to be a builder, ever since I was a young fella. My first project was building tree huts with my mates at my parent’s property in Tai Tapu, Christchurch. Some of those huts are still standing to this day.
I started my building apprenticeship just before the 2011 earthquakes, which gave me a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop valuable skills as a carpenter. After completing my apprenticeship, I took some time to travel and pursue my passion for surfing and traveling in Indonesia and Mexico. I also spent some time living and working in Australia. When I returned to New Zealand in 2018, I settled in Mount Maunganui and secured a job with an architectural building company.
Karma Construction was established in 2021. Since then I completed a construction-related supervisor certificate and have a list of completed projects with happy clients. The name “Karma” comes from the belief that if you do good, more good will come your way – and I think that’s shown in our projects, each one better than the last.
Outside of work, I’m a husband, father, surfer, and proud homeowner who still loves to travel, and enjoys reading architecture magazines, sipping coffee, and mowing the lawns.
